The thought of baking bread for a beginning cook may seem a little daunting. Starting out with an easy recipe can make the task much less stressful and a more enjoyable experience; one that is more apt to be repeated.

Novice Dinner Buns

Bake at 400 degrees; Makes approx 12 buns

In a large mixing bowl, mix together:

1 cup of warm water (about 110 degrees)

2 1/4 teaspoons yeast

2 tablespoons sugar

1 teaspoon salt

Add:

1 egg

2 tablespoons shortening

Beat in:

2 1/4 cups flour

When the dough is thoroughly mixed, cover the bowl with a slightly damp towel and let rise in a warm place about 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, stir down the dough and spoon into a well greased 12  cup muffin pan. Each muffin section should be filled no more than 1/2 full.  Again, let the dough rise, uncovered,  just to the tops of each muffin section. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes or until nicely browned.   Serve warm with butter; makes about 12 buns.
