Landfill Waste

In an effort to minimize not only food waste, but non recyclable and non biodegradable trash as well,  a variety of  household items were collected over a one week period. Realizing the multitude of household items headed for the landfill was definitely eye opening. Repurposing items and alternative purchases can help alleviate this problem. Undeniably, grocery shopping for containers which can be recycled or will eventually decompose can be time-consuming and in many cases, cost prohibitive. But, each individual’s purchase of only one or two items can help to lessen the impact on our environment. And hopefully,  being  conscious  of packaging and looking for the recycling emblem will eventually become second nature to all of us.

Amazingly,  one trash  item held organic foods and another an environmentally friendly light bulb.(also included: straws,  sticker backing, body wash container,  egg roll wrappers, frozen fruit packaging, fresh fruit packaging. not pictured: tetra pak milk container)
