Kitchen Grease

Cooking grease discarded into the kitchen sink may eventually have undesirable results. Similar to the body’s arteries, the walls of the plumbing pipes gradually accumulate solidified grease deposits.  A minor problem of a slow draining sink may eventually escalate to become completely clogged.

Many cities are now campaigning for residents to deposit cooking grease into disposable containers to be collected with the regular trash.  Non recyclable containers which would be normally discarded are preferred and should be tightly sealed.  Care should be taken to cool the grease before handling.

Freezing grease in open containers for disposal is not recommended as the grease eventually melts, causing problems with garbage trucks and at solid waste facilities.
